4D BIM AND 3D INTERACTIVE MODELS

4D planning or 4D BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a powerful tool which integrates 3D BIM models with time-based scheduling and sequencing information to create a dynamic and visual representation of a construction project over time. It helps streamline project management, reduce risks, identify potential conflicts or delaysi and improve project delivery throughout the construction process.

Different from the usual approach of the market to 4D simulations where only a static animated 3d model is created, our 4D team creates an interactive 3D model of the project using popular 3D game engines like Unity or Unreal, allowing project staff to walk through it in real-time. This provides the staff with the opportunity to visualize the finished construction even before it enters the design phase.

OUR METHODOLOGY

Data Collection

  • Gather all relevant project data, including architectural drawings, engineering models, schedules, and cost estimates.

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

  • Create a detailed Work Breakdown Structure to break down the project into smaller and manageable work packages

Integrate 3D Model with Scheduling Data

  • Link the 3D BIM model with the project schedule, associating each element in the model with the corresponding activity in the schedule
  • Assign durations and dependencies to each element to reflect the construction sequence accurately.

Visualization and Simulation

  • Use 4D planning software (e.g., Navisworks, or similar) to visualize the project's construction sequence over time.
  • Create animations or simulations that show how the project will evolve from start to finish.

Create the Interactive 3D Environment for the Project

  • Export the 3D model, scheduling, and cost data to the preferred 3D game engine
  • Develop the necessary program scripts for real-time navigation and ambient effects
  • Create an interactive 3D model that allows users to navigate through it in a first-person view, interact with 3D objects, and dynamically adjust graphic effects such as ambient lighting and shadows in real-time
  • Compile the model into a separate executable file, similar to a video game, and deliver it to the client

Analysis and Optimization

  • Conduct a thorough review of the 4D simulation to identify any clashes, conflicts, or potential scheduling issues.
  • Adjust the schedule and model as needed to resolve these issues
  • Evaluate different scenarios to determine the most efficient schedule.
